The Gameplay Mods Collection: The Best Sims 4 Mods to Install in 2026

The best Sims 4 mods don't change how your game looks. They change what your Sims actually do all day, from paying their own bills to falling out with the neighbours. We went through the mods simmers recommend most and kept the 36 we'd install in a new save today: the essentials almost everyone runs, small fixes that take chores off your hands, deeper health and money systems, family and party mods, a little drama and a few new jobs. Patch 1.129 arrived on 27 October, so we've marked the picks whose creators had confirmed it when we checked. For anything without that mark, look at the creator's page before you update. If you'd rather start with something gentler, our Christmas Collection ends with a few festive mods.

Mods Folder Approved. Every pick here has earned its place. Each one is well made, popular with simmers and looked after by a creator who keeps it working after patches; every download is free, every link was checked on 3 November 2026 and every required pack and dependency is listed up front.

Must-have mods 2026

MC Command Center (MCCC)

By Deaderpool · No packs needed (works with all of them) · Script mod · Updated for 1.129 · Creator's own site

The mod most simmers install first. It hands you control over the game and over how NPC lives move along in the background, split into modules you switch on as you need them, and an in-game search finds any setting quickly. The downloads go through Google Drive and MediaFire, which some virus scanners flag by mistake.

XML Injector

By Scumbumbo, now kept up by Triplis · No packs needed · Script mod · Creator's own site

You won't notice this one in play, but a lot of the mods below won't run without it, including most of LittleMsSam's. A test interaction on your mailbox tells you it's installed properly. Its status page hadn't confirmed 1.129 yet when we checked, though the creators who depend on it have tested their mods with it on the new patch.

Better Exceptions

By TwistedMexi · No packs listed · Script mod · CurseForge

When something breaks, this turns the game's cryptic error log into a readable report and usually names the file behind it. Its Outfit CC tracker even finds the piece of CC causing a glitched outfit. The newest version is in early access for now, but the free 3.16 does the job.

ModGuard: Mod Malware Protection

By TwistedMexi · No packs listed · Script mod · CurseForge

A quiet safety net for your Mods folder. It blocks the common tricks used by compromised mod files and tells you which file tried one. The creator is clear that it isn't antivirus, so keep downloading from creators' own pages.

Better BuildBuy

By TwistedMexi · No packs listed · Script mod · CurseForge

Build mode the way it should have shipped: an organised debug catalogue, favourites, filters by kit, a light editor and a cinematic camera. It can also hide CC from the catalogue without deleting it. Drop the whole folder into Mods rather than a deeper subfolder, and check the creator's status page if you see interface errors after updating.

T.O.O.L.

By TwistedMexi · No packs listed · Script mod · Works in Build mode with Better BuildBuy · CurseForge

Move, raise, rotate and resize any object to exact values, which is how builders get books onto shelves and lamps tucked half into hedges. It works in Live mode on its own and in Build mode alongside Better BuildBuy. The free version is 3.2, while a newer update sits in early access.

Quality of life mods

Autonomous Pay Bills

By LittleMsSam · No packs listed · Needs XML Injector · Checked for 1.129 · CurseForge

Sims pay the bills by themselves while they're waiting in the mailbox, so the repo man stops dropping by. There are no settings to fiddle with. It's the smallest mod here and one of the most useful.

Autonomous Repairs

By LittleMsSam · No packs listed · Needs XML Injector · Checked for 1.129 · CurseForge

Sims fix what's broken, mop up puddles and deal with the trash without being told. They can take their time getting round to it, which feels about right for a real household.

Autonomous Gardening

By LittleMsSam · No packs listed · Needs XML Injector · Checked for 1.129 · CurseForge

Sims with the Plant Lover trait water, weed, spray and evolve the garden on their own each morning. Optional add-ons cover harvesting, fertilising and slower plant decay. The add-ons may not work with CC plants that use their own harvest options.

Heat Up Leftovers

By LittleMsSam · No packs listed · Needs XML Injector · Checked for 1.129 · CurseForge

Leftovers finally get a microwave. Sims take food from the fridge, reheat it and eat it, and a warm meal can give them a small buff. The microwave animation is a stand-in, but the routine itself makes kitchens feel lived in.

More Servings Options

By LittleMsSam · No packs needed for the main file · Optional add-ons for pack recipes · Needs XML Injector · Checked for 1.129 · CurseForge

Cook dinner for two, a family of six or a party of twelve instead of the game's fixed sizes. It also adds base game recipes that never made it into the menus, like the BLT and chips and salsa. Grab the add-ons that match the packs you own.

Better Autonomous Homework

By LittleMsSam · No packs listed · Needs XML Injector · Checked for 1.129 · CurseForge

Children and teens sit down and do their homework without you having to queue it every evening. An optional add-on lets them work on it straight from their inventory. Big families will feel the difference by the end of the first week.

Vintage Catalogues: Upgrade Parts Off the Grid

By Naunakht · Base game compatible · 2 versions · Updated after 1.129 · Mod The Sims

A stack of old catalogues that lets Sims order upgrade parts with no computer, which is perfect for off-the-grid lots. Choose one version: parts straight into the inventory, or delivered by mail a day or two later. The creator updated it on 31 October so Sims can now buy parts in bulk.

Realistic gameplay mods

Private Practice

By SimRealist with roBurky · Needs Get to Work (EP) · Other packs add extra allergens · Clinic lots included · itch.io

The game's light sniffles become colds, flu, infections, seasonal allergies and even heart trouble, with doctor's appointments and medicine to match. Check-ups are free if someone in the household has a standard career. The page lists compatibility up to the March patch, so check it after updating.

SNB – Bills

By SimRealist · No packs listed · Turn off MCCC's money settings · itch.io

One vague bill becomes water, electricity, trash, cable, internet, phone and property tax, and late payments gather interest. It also adds child support and alimony, so a divorce costs more than a sad moodlet. It was updated for 1.128 in September, and 1.129 isn't confirmed yet.

Lifetime Quirks

By Kuttoe · Base game · Extra quirks with packs (pet allergies need Cats & Dogs) · Script mod · itch.io

Sims pick up quirks, fixations and flaws as they live, up to one per life stage, either at random or because of what happens to them. A hidden wellness need tracks how they're coping, and therapy or medication can help. The creator calls this the first phase, so a few ages are still waiting for their quirks.

Toddler Sicknesses and Stacking Symptoms

By NateTheL0ser · Needs Get to Work (EP) · Script mod · 3 versions · Mod The Sims

Toddlers can catch colds, flu and stomachaches from daycare, the season or a sick sibling, and they pass them on. There's a version built to work with Private Practice. The page is unclear about whether Lot 51's Core Library is needed, so read the install notes before you pick a version.

Character Values Overhaul

By tyjokr · Needs Parenthood (GP) · Needs Lot 51 Core Library · Mod The Sims

Parenthood's character values finally mean something. Every trait shapes them, starting values are randomised, and a Sim who lets one slip into the red starts acting like it. Don't run it alongside Zero's Parenthood Fixes, because those are already built in.

Occult Hybrid Mod

By BearlyBearable · Base game compatible (only useful with occult packs) · Script mod · Updated after 1.129 · Mod The Sims

A vampire-werewolf or a spellcaster-mermaid should work properly, and this mod makes sure they do. It fixes clashing needs and outfits for Sims with more than one occult type and adds a hybrid trait. The creator calls it a work in progress and updated it the day after the patch.

Family, parties and social life

Foster Family

By LittleMsSam · Parenthood (GP) recommended · Cats & Dogs (EP) for foster pets · Needs XML Injector · Checked for 1.129 · CurseForge

Your household signs up to a foster network on the phone and takes in children, teens or pets, with weekly support payments to help. You can adopt a foster yourself or welcome the families who come to meet them. It's a lovely way to grow a household without a pregnancy.

Better Nanny

By LittleMsSam · No packs listed · Needs XML Injector · Checked for 1.129 · CurseForge

The game's nanny becomes someone you can rely on: better with crying infants and nappies, with working hours and uniforms you choose. Larger families can hire a second one. Pick one working-time and one age option when you install the add-ons.

Advanced Birth Certificate

By LittleMsSam · Needs Get to Work (EP) · Needs XML Injector · Checked for 1.129 · CurseForge

Every baby gets a birth certificate, including the ones born at home and in hospital, and you can rename it. Vampires, mermaids, spellcasters, werewolves and fairies each get their own design. It's a small keepsake that legacy players will love.

Housewarming Party

By LittleMsSam · No packs listed · 2 versions · Checked for 1.129 · CurseForge

The Welcome Wagon becomes a proper housewarming, with your Sim's friends arriving with cupcakes instead of two strangers and a fruitcake. A second version invites neighbours instead. Install only one of them.

NPC Weddings and Invites

By KaylaDot · No packs listed · Needs XML Injector and NPC Events Shared Library · CurseForge

Engaged NPCs actually get married, and your Sims get invited as guests with their own goals to complete. Caterers and entertainers are hired for you, and some couples phone to ask whether they should elope. Pair it with the gowns and arches in our Wedding Collection.

Parties, Clubs, and Weddings Anywhere

By ClaudiaSharon (original by Shimrod101) · Pack list on the creator's page (it works with some packs missing) · Mod The Sims

Throw birthdays, dinner parties and weddings at Generic venues, and use them as club hangouts too. Parties run longer and weddings get two extra hours. It edits venue tuning, so it can clash with other party or venue mods.

Its Movie Time

By tank · Base game compatible · Script mod · Updated for 1.129 · Needs the Movie Add-On Library · Mod The Sims

Sims can watch actual movie clips on their TVs and computers, with a DVD player and a menu that sorts films by genre. Movie night with friends finally has something on the screen. The films come from a separate library, so expect a couple of extra downloads.

Drama mods

Neighborhood Stories Expanded

By KaylaDot · No packs listed · Needs XML Injector · CurseForge

The town's NPCs stop living on pause. Couples break up when things sour, dating Sims get engaged and marry, and exes move out. Engagements stay rare unless you also run a mod that reduces relationship culling, which the creator recommends.

Social Interaction Pack

By KiaraSims4Mods · Packs listed per interaction · Needs XML Injector · 42 separate downloads · Creator's own site

Forty-two new things to say, from confessing to cheating and accusing someone of being a gold digger to announcing an engagement. Each one is its own download, so you take only the drama you want. A few reference WooHoo in the vanilla way, and they're easy to skip.

First Impressions

By Lumpinou · Parenthood (GP) for the friendship and romance effects · Script mod · Needs Lumpinou's Toolbox and Mood Pack · Patreon (free)

When two Sims meet, each decides what they make of the other: a crush, someone untrustworthy, someone funny or plain rude. Those impressions nudge how they get along from then on. You'll need two of the creator's other mods as well, so keep all three up to date together.

Have Some Personality Please!

By PolarBearSims · Pack interactions appear only if you own the pack · Mod The Sims

Sims stop making small talk and start acting like themselves, choosing friendly, flirty or mean socials from their traits, mood and relationships. It also cuts down on autonomous cheating, which is a relief for anyone who's lost a marriage to a stray flirt. It's a large override, so it clashes with mods that edit the same social files.

Random Texts and Calls

By Kuttoe · Base game · More calls with City Living, Get Famous, Outdoor Retreat, Parenthood, Vampires and StrangerVille · Script mod · itch.io

Parents check in, friends gossip about their hobbies and the odd stranger tries to scam your Sim. How your Sim reacts depends on their traits, so a Loner and an Outgoing Sim get very different calls. Some calls need the creator's New Emotional Traits, which hasn't been updated in a while.

Premade Sim and Relationship Overhaul

By OneMoreKayaker · Base game · Get Together and Vampires optional · Script mod · itch.io

The town's premade families get fresh looks, sensible skills and the relationships their stories always hinted at, from old rivalries to Don Lothario's tangled love life. It only changes households you haven't played yet, so it's best in a new save. Install just one of its two versions.

Career and school mods

More Students at High School

By ksuihuh · Needs High School Years (EP) · Small script · Mod The Sims

An empty high school is a sad sight, and this fills the classrooms, prom and graduation with more students. Choose 18, 24 or 40 students, though the creator advises against the biggest option. Make sure every classroom has enough desks.

Calendar Tweaks

By LittleMsSam · Needs Seasons (EP) and High School Years (EP) · Needs XML Injector · Checked for 1.129 · CurseForge

Exams and prom stop happening every single weekend. You switch them on when you want them, and they switch off again on their own. Read the creator's notes once before you start, because the timing matters.

Boba Shop career

By RojaCat · No packs listed · Teen to elder · 10 levels · The Sims Resource

A weekend job for teens that can grow into a real career, starting at the till and ending in store management or corporate franchise work. Work outfits come with it. It's new, so there are only a few comments so far.

Paper Route

By RojaCat · Needs Seasons, Get Famous or High School Years (any one) · Children · The Sims Resource

A first job for children: early-morning newspaper rounds three days a week, finished in time for school. Two levels and a scout-style uniform keep it simple. It's a sweet way to teach a young Sim some responsibility.

That's the Gameplay Mods Collection, and we'll keep it current as patches land. New to mods? Start with our guide to installing Sims 4 CC. Script mods, and mods that need XML Injector, also need Script Mods Allowed switched on in Game Options. After every patch, update your script mods before you load a save.
