Hats are the trickiest accessory to get right. The game swaps in a flatter version of a hairstyle under a hat only when the hair is hat compatible, so a hat on the wrong hair clips straight through. Check the hair first: our hair CC listings say when a style is hat compatible.
Hair accessories such as clips, bows and scrunchies often sit in the hat slot, so they can't be worn with a hat unless the creator made a version for another slot.
Full head coverings such as hijabs and headwraps often come with notes on which hair to wear underneath; follow them so nothing pokes through. Then finish the look with jewelry and glasses, or browse all accessories.

Why does hair poke through my Sim's hat?
The hairstyle isn't hat compatible, so the game has no flatter version to swap in. Choose a hat-compatible style or a short cut.
What does hat compatible mean?
The creator made an extra version of the hair that the game uses under hats. Without it, hats sit on top of the full hairstyle and clip.
Can I wear a hat and a hair clip together?
Only if they use different slots. Many hair accessories sit in the hat slot, so check the creator's notes.
